To the Patrons of Littlefield ISD:

Happy Fall!

Congratulations to Teresa Mitchell for being chosen as the KLBK Teacher of the Week.  Teresa teaches 4th grade.  LISD is proud of you!

We have completed our first six weeks of school!  It seems like yesterday that we were meeting and greeting students for the first day of school.  Time certainly passes us by in a hurry!  As we begin our second six weeks of school, I encourage each of you to continue to stress the importance of school work and attendance to your child(ren).

The foundation for a portion of the new high school was poured this week.  The gentlemen got started around 4:00 a.m. Tuesday morning and worked throughout the day.  There are two more sections that will be poured later on this week.  Once the foundation is completed, you will begin to see steel going up and progress being made towards the new building.

Workers at the high school are disposing everything at the courtyard due to the fact new classrooms will be built in that area.  This is a reminder that area will be part of the new junior high building as we move forward.  The existing high school will be renovated once our high school students are able to move into the new building and will house our junior high students for years to come.  On another note, all of the trees in the courtyard will be coming down due to the construction of the classrooms.   The memorial markers we have in front of the courtyard have been moved and will be relocated on campus at a later date.

The High School Band is preparing for a contest that is coming up in October.  The band reports to the football stadium early in the morning to prepare and fine tune areas for perfection.  Kudos to our Band Directors:  Bonnie Anderson, Gina Muela, and Talitha Cook.  These ladies do a phenomenal job with our Band program.  The Drum majors for the Wildcat Band are:  Jimmy Ramos and Matthew Rios.    Flag captains are Caitlyn Black and Brittany Abeyta.  Finally, a special shout out to the two bus drivers who drive our band members to games and contests --- Mark Warsing and Adrian Medina.  You are ALL APPRECIATED!

The High School Volleyball team began District play this week traveling to Idalou.  Our ladies have done a great job in non-district and are looking forward to beginning district play.  The Lady Cat coaches for volleyball are:  Kaylee Edgemon (Head Coach), Mallie McGehee, Keith Logan, and Jay Ragland.  Captains for the Lady Cat Volleyball team:  Kennadi Hanlin and Julie Bownds.  Good luck to the Varsity and JV as they begin district play.

The High School Cross Country team has been running every morning preparing for the upcoming District Cross Country meet on October 10 at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock, Texas.  Our athletes will begin running at 10:00 a.m. that morning.  The cross country teams are under the leadership of Jarred Thomas.  I will update results from the district cross country meet in a later article.  Good luck to our girls and boys teams!

Our elementary and junior high students and teachers are preparing for the upcoming UIL Academic contest that will be held in November in Friona and Muleshoe.

Please continue to check our school website at www.lfdisd.org for the most up to date information regarding schedules and results.

Proud to be a WILDCAT!
